Research strategy

Before you start think about your topic and keywords - check out:

Try your keywords in:

Refine your results to document type (journal article, book etc.), date or peer-reviewed articles as required.  Check the keywords used for relevant results.

Use Library Search for your initial search.

Refine your search:

  • Limit to journal articles or select Peer-Reviewed
  • Limit to a date range

Most articles are in electronic journals.  Follow the online link to open the webpage and pdf.

Use Library Search to find print and e-books.

  • For print books use the call number to locate the books on the shelves. These numbers are on the book's spine and on the shelf.   
  • E-books can be read online or downloaded using Adobe Digital Editions. 

Search a specific database or 

  1. ​​For books look for the Bonus+ logo on a Library Search result page.  This will take you to a screen where you are able to request from a Library in New Zealand or Australia.
  2. If you can't find the book there use the Inter-Library Loans Service - For help use this Guide.
  3. Journal articles not available in our databases should be requested through the Inter-Library Loans Service.
  4. Request an item be purchased for the Library - Materials request form.

Search a database:

  • after you have done your initial search in Library Search and have a better idea of what you want to search for
  • if you can't find what you need in Library Search
