Most private companies in New Zealand are small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). As private companies have their shares owned within a private group, detailed information especially financial information for these companies is usually not available to the public. Therefore finding information for private companies can be quite difficult.

Information on private companies can sometimes be found in one of the larger international databases, or by searching for articles in the business media and industry publications.  Try the following sources:

• Company websites - companies will often publish information about themselves on their own websites
• Google - search for information about the company on local news and business sites (be sure to evaluate the quality of any sites you use)
• Any of the business resources listed below:
