Evaluating Websites

Can you trust everything you read on the Web ?

Of course not.

If you are going to use web-based material in your assignments, then it is up to you to carefully evaluate the quality and reliability of the material you use. This is a process that is often called Critical Appraisal.

However, some online material is often accepted as being more trustworthy than other web-based material. For example, official electronic publications from organisations and institutions are considered just as trustworthy as if they were in print rather than an electronic file.

Be careful. Trust, but verify.

Much useful information can be located on the World Wide Web. Care must be taken though with the source of any information as well as careful evaluation of the material found.
