Call Numbers are how the library orders the books so you can find them. To find a book, you find the number on the shelf.
AUT library uses the Dewey Decimal system. In short, this system groups books on the same topic at the same number.
Want to make sense of Call Numbers? Here is a summary of the Dewey Decimal system.
The library collection is divided into several areas, each area serving a different aspect of study and research.
The Main Collection items are those books that students and staff can take out and reserve.
The High Demand (Short Term Loan) items are those books that may only be used in the library, and that are issued for only two hours at a time. (These items have a D in front of their Call Number).
The Reference items are those books that may only be used in the library, and cannot be taken out. (These items have a R in front of their Call Number).
Finally the Journals (Serials), while mostly electonic and found through the Library Catalogue, for some titles may also be found on the shelves. These are also only used in the library, and cannot be issued. (They have a S in front of their Call Number).
Many books on Podiatry are found at 617.585 in the North Shore Campus library.
If you have a more specific topic, search Library Search before going to the shelves (use the Format option to limit your results to Books/e-Books).
Other useful topics can be found on the shelves at the following Call Numbers:
If the book you want is out then you can place a Recall on it, doing so requests the person who has it out to return the book, and upon its return it is held for you to collect.
To the right of the catalogue page that fully details the book that you want, is a pale blue "Action Box".
One of the options in this box is to:
Use the Make a Request link to place your recall on the book. When it is returned, you will be sent an email letting you know that you have 4 days to pick the book up in.
The library also has a significant DVD collection. These items are found through the Library Catalogue just as books are.
