Alternative to using EndNote

Zotero is a free research tool that enables you to collect, manage, and cite your research sources. Zotero 4.0 is available for Mac, Windows and Linux. You can download one of these two versions: Zotero for Firefox or Zotero Standalone. The Standalone application can be downloaded to Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome browsers (not Internet Explorer). If you wish to use Zotero as an alternative to EndNote, you can download the various necessary components from the Zotero website:

• Zotero for Firefox
• Word processor plugins for Zotero for Firefox
• Zotero Standalone for Safari, Chrome and Firefox. Plugins for Word processor are included.

The Zotero website includes a Quick Start Guide to help you use the software.

For law students: John Prebble and Julia Caldwell from Victoria University of Wellington have written Zotero - A manual for electronic legal referencing which is a comprehensive guide to using Zotero with the New Zealand Law Style. We do not currently have this referencing style in EndNote. You can download this guide from the Social Science Research Network (create a free account).

Note: The guide includes instructions for installing the following components which you will need in order to do legal referencing with Zotero:

• Multilingual Zotero Client
• Abbreviations plug-in
• New Zealand Law Style
• New Zealand abbreviations
