Get the software

Access from campus computers

  • EndNote is available on student computers on campus 
  • Staff will find EndNote on their office computer. If the version is earlier than EndNote X8, staff should request an update by logging a job on ICT Service Now 

Download for off-campus use

  • One copy of EndNote can be installed on personal computers or laptops

Uninstall previous versions of EndNote

  • Make a backup copy of any existing EndNote libraries and save them to external storage
  • Uninstall EndNote from your computer

Get the EndNote X8 software

  • Students should log in to Blackboard and from Student Links select AUT Software Downloads

 Install on your personal computer

  • Follow the on-screen instructions
  • If you are unable to proceed past the installer download, right-click the installer file in the downloads folder and select Run as administrator. Still unsuccessful? Check your firewall/security settings

  • EndNote's Cite While You Write (CWYW) functionality is enabled by an EndNote X8 tab automatically added to the Word ribbon when EndNote is downloaded

APA 6th - AUT X8 style file

To get EndNote to generate APA-compliant references the style selector should be set to APA 6th - AUTX8, the version customised for AUT's environment

Manually download APA 6th - X8 style

If APA 6th - AUTX8 does not appear in the drop-down list you can install it manually

  • Right click APA 6th - AUTX8.ens style file (see below)
  • Choose Save link as ...  and save to desktop
  • Right-click, then <Ctrl + C> to copy
  • Navigate to  C:\Program Files (X86)\EndNote X8\Styles and Paste the file. Ignore underscores that may appear in the file name and link as described in the next step
  • To link the style to your library, open EndNote, go to Edit > Preferences > Folder > Locations > Style folder > Select Folder, selecting the folder into which you have just pasted the .ens file
