Get the software

Access from campus computers

  • EndNote is available on student computers on campus 
  • Staff will find EndNote on their office computer. If the version is earlier than EndNote X8, staff should request an update by logging a job on ICT Service Now 

Download for off-campus use

  • One copy of EndNote can be installed on personal computers or laptops

Note: The IT Service Desk does not provide installation or ongoing support for EndNote on personal devices.

Uninstall previous versions of EndNote

  • Make a backup copy of any existing EndNote libraries and save them to external storage
  • Uninstall EndNote from your computer

Get the EndNote X8 software

  • Students should log in to Blackboard and from Student Links select AUT_DOWNLOAD_ORG

 Install on your personal Mac computer

  • Follow the on-screen instructions
  • Make sure that you download both packages in the order listed

  • If you are unable to proceed past the installer download, right-click (Ctrl-click) the installer file in the downloads folder and select Run as administrator. Still unsuccessful? Check your firewall/security settings.

APA 6th - AUT X8 style file

To get EndNote to generate APA-compliant references the style selector should be set to APA 6th - AUTX8, the version customised for AUT's environment.

After you have installed EndNote, If APA 6th - AUTX8 does not appear in the dropdown styles menu or Select Another Style list you can install it manually.

Manually download APA 6th - AUT X8 style

  • Download APA 6th - AUT X8.ens style file (link below)
  • Double click this file to open in EndNote 
  • In EndNote go to File > Save As > Save
  • File Menu > Close Style
  • Quit EndNote  
  • Open EndNote and click the dropdown styles menu to select APA 6th - AUT X8 style
