Search options

EndNote's search options appear on the EndNote library tool bar.

Using Quick Search

This is the default search option. Terms entered here will retrieve references from anywhere in your library.

Using the Search Panel

This enables searching on particular fields or terms, or combinations of both.

  • Select Tools then Search Library...

  • or select Layout icon and Show Search

  • The default displays preset fields for Author, Year and Title
  • Use the drop-down arrow to specify a particular field, e.g., Any Field, Title, AuthorKeywords or Research Notes
  • Enter your search terms, click Search
  • For complex searches use multiple search boxes and terms, and consider combining with And, Or or Not

  • Search results can be used to create a new Smart Group or added to an existing group
  • To restore the All References view, select All References in the Groups panel

Note: You can use Search to find references you have tagged because they relate to a particular project or because you need to do something, such as quote from them or interloan the full text. Notes and Keywords has details.
