Reports: General notes

See the APA Referencing Style Guide - Reports for definitive examples of APA-compliant references.

  • Use the Book or Electronic Book reference type unless the report is numbered, in which case use the Report reference type which includes a Report Number field
     
  • If the report has a ​corporate author remember to add a comma at the end of the organisation name in the Author field
     
  • Corporate author abbreviations should appear in addition to the full name in the first in-text citation and instead of the full name thereafter
    • First citation:   ….as research indicates (Inland Revenue Department [IRD], 2007)
    • Subsequent citations:  .…suggested by recent statistics (IRD, 2010)
    • ​First citation: Endnote workaround
      • Highlight the citation, click Edit and Manage Citation(s) in the EndNote X8 tab
      • The edit citation box appears, use the formatting drop-down to select Exclude Author
      • In the Prefix box, enter the full author name plus the bracketed abbreviation, followed by a comma and a space, e.g., Inland Revenue Department [IRD]
  • Subsequent citations: Endnote workaround
    • Highlight the citation, click Edit and Manage Citation(s)
    • The edit citation box appears, use the formatting drop-down to select Exclude Author
    • In the Prefix box, enter the author abbreviation followed by a comma and a space, e.g., IRD,

Conferences: General notes

  • Published conferences can be treated as Book or Electronic Book reference types
  • Conference papers 
    • Use Book Section reference type for papers in one-off conferences
    • Use Journal Article or Electronic Article reference types for conference papers in regularly-published proceedings
  • Conference papers not formally published 
    • ​Use Conference Paper reference type
    • Enter the month the conference was held in the Date field and the year in the Year field
    • For Conference Location provide city and state or city and country for US / non-US locations, respectively, as in the example

If the paper does not have a DOI number, include the URL for the homepage of the proceedings, as for a journal article.  Do not include both DOI and URL..
