Exporting references from OVID databases

To export references from any OVID database into EndNote, follow the process described below.

Step 1: Select reference/s to export

First, make sure your EndNote library is open. Search the OVID database, and apply search filters if necessary, to retrieve relevant results.

To select references to export:

  • In the database, tick the box next to the title of each reference
  • In the right-hand top menu, click Export

Step 2: Export reference file and open in EndNote

The Export Citation(s) List dialog box will open.

  • Under Format, select EndNote from the dropdown menu
  • Under Fields, select an option to choose how much information you export
  • Untick Link to External Resolver
  • Click Export

  • If you are using Firefox, a .cgi file will open in EndNote and the reference/s will be imported
  • If you are using another browser, such as Google Chrome, the .cgi file will download - double-click on it from the downloads bar or saved location to open it in EndNote and import the reference/s
  • Note: the first time you open a .cgi file, you may need to select EndNote X8 to open it with, from a list of programs on your computer
