Exporting references from PubMed databases

To export references from any PubMed database into EndNote, follow the process described below.

Step 1: Select reference/s to export

First, make sure your EndNote library is open. Search the PubMed database, and apply search filters if necessary, to retrieve relevant results.

To select references to export:

  • Tick the boxes next to the article titles
  • From the top menu, choose Send to

Step 2: Export reference file and open in EndNote

The Choose Destination dialog box will open​.

  • Check Citation manager
  • Click Create File

  • If you are using Firefox, an .nbib file will open in EndNote and the reference/s will be imported
  • If you are using another browser, such as Google Chrome, the .nbib file will download - double-click on it from the downloads bar or saved location to open it in EndNote and import the reference/s

Open each imported reference and make any changes necessary to produce an accurate citation.
