EndNote: Reports and Conferences in EndNote

Guide to using EndNote, software that helps organise your reference sources. Also allows you to create in text citations and a list of references as you type in Microsoft Word.

General points about reports and conferences in EndNote

On other pages....

Click on the headings below for tips and examples of how to create EndNote records that will produce accurate references in the APA 6th style.

  • Many reports can be treated as books or electronic books in EndNote. However, if the report is a numbered one, use the Report reference type because this includes a Report Number field in which you should enter the details, e.g. Research Report No. 06.3
These details will then appear in the reference, not italicised, in brackets immediately after the report title
  • Many reports have a corporate author (i.e. an organisation). Remember to add a comma at the end of the organisation name in the Author field
  • Conference locations should be entered as:
City, Country for places outside the USA, e.g. Venice, Italy
City, State abbreviation for USA locations, e.g. Jackson Hole, WY
  • For conference papers that are not formally published in proceedings but are available online, the month and year of the conference are included in the reference. In EndNote, enter the month in the Date field and the year in the Year field
