Scopus

Search alerts - latest articles on a topic

You should Register with Scopus first and log in to your Scopus account.

  • Run a Document search on your topic
  • Refine your search until you are happy with the results
  • Click on Set Alert at the top of the results list 
  • Set your alert preferences, including the frequency of the alert 
  • Select Set Alert - new results will be emailed to you regularly

  • Go to the Alerts icon on the top right tool bar to edit or delete your alerts

Author citation/document alerts

Create an alert for new publications written by an author and indexed in Scopus, or for when other researchers cite an author (including when other researchers cite your own work).

  • Login to your Scopus account
  • Search for an author by using Author search
  • Click the author's name from the search results. The next screen should be the author's profile page.
  • Click Set alert from the top of the page
  • Choose whether you want to set a ‘Document alert’ for new publications written by the author OR ‘Author citation alert’ for when other researchers cite this author.
  • Select the frequency of the alerts and select Set Alert

Article citation alerts

You may like to be alerted to new citations of a specific article, for example an article you've written.

  • Find the article in Scopus
  • Click ‘Set citation alert’ for new citation alerts

  • Select the frequency and select Set alert

EBSCO databases

Register with one of EBSCO databases first in order to use the alerts feature.  

Click Sign In on the top blue banner, select Create a new account and follow the steps to create an account.

Set up Alerts:

  1. Carry out a search (topic, or author, or journal title) in Library Search or an EBSCO database, e.g. Business Source Complete
  2. Adjust your keywords, add limits like date, scholarly, etc, until you are happy with your results
  3. Click on
  4. Click on Email Alert
  5. A box opens. Choose your preferred options (frequency, how recent, etc) and click Save alert

  

 

Google Scholar

Search result alerts

  1. On AUT library homepage, select AUT Google Scholar.
  2. Search for a topic, adjust keywords and refine you search results until you are happy with the quality and relevance of the result
  3. Click Create Alert      Google Scholar create alert
  4. Enter in your email address and number of results you would like
  5. Follow the prompts to confirm the alert

Citation alerts

  1. Search for an article
  2. On the search result, see example below, click Cited by 171Google Scholar result
  3. On the next screen of 171 articles that have cited the above article, click Google Scholar create alertfrom the left hand side column.
  4. Check your email address, and click Create alert 

Follow an author

This method can only be used when an author has had a Google Scholar profile.

  1. Search for an author
  2. Find the author's Google Scholar profile and open it by clicking on their name           
  3. Click Follow to follow this author GS profile John Cronin
