Browser Extension - Google Chrome

 

If your Browser Extension is not working in Google Chrome:

 

Plan A:   Turn the extension 'Off' then 'On':

 
  1.  Right-click the  extension in your browser, and select 'Manage extension' in the dropdown
  2.  Toggle the 'Talis Aspire Reading List Bookmarking' extension 'Off'' then 'On'
  3.  Retry using the extension. If it is still not working, clear your cache.
 

Plan B:   Clear your cache:

 
  1.  Activate the keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + Del
  2.  Click 'Delete data' to delete browsing history, download history, cookies etc.
  3.  Retry using the extension. If it is still not working, contact ServiceNow
 

 

If the extension is not pinned to your toolbar in the top right of your Google Chrome browser window:

 
  • Click the 'puzzle' icon, then the 'pin' symbol next to the Talis Aspire extension*

 

*If the Talis Aspire extension is not visible in the pop-up:

  • Click 'Manage extensions' (bottom of pop-up shown above)
  • Find the Talis Aspire extension, and click the toggle to turn the extension On
  • Now click the 'puzzle' icon, then the 'pin' symbol next to the Talis Aspire extension

      

 

If there is an Error pop-up notification while using the extension, click 'Accept permissions' to enable cookies

 

Browser Extension - Microsoft Edge

 

If your Browser Extension is not working in Microsoft Edge, clear your cache:         Keyboard Shortcut:  Ctrl + Shift + Del

 
  1.  Click the three dots icon in the top right of your browser window
  2.  Select Settings in the drop down
  3.  Click 'Privacy, search, and services' in the menu on the left
  4.  Click 'Choose what to clear' under 'Clear browsing data'
  5.  Click Clear now on the pop-up

If you cannot see the extension in your toolbar in the top right of your Microsoft Edge browser window:

 
  • Click the 'puzzle' icon, then the 'eye' symbol next to the Talis Aspire extension*

 

*If the Talis Aspire extension is not visible in the pop-up:

  • Click 'Manage extensions' at the bottom of the pop-up
  • Find the Talis Aspire extension, and click the toggle to turn the extension On
  • Now click the 'puzzle' icon, then the 'eye' symbol next to the Talis Aspire extension

                

 

If the 'puzzle' icon is not visible in your browser tool:

  • Click the three dots buttons, and select Extensions in the drop down
  • Now click the 'puzzle' icon, then the 'eye' symbol next to the Talis Aspire extension

Browser Extension - Mozilla Firefox

 

If your Browser Extension is not working in Mozilla Firefox, clear your cache:         Keyboard Shortcut:  Ctrl + Shift + Del

 
  1.  Click the three lines icon in the top right of your browser window
  2.  Select Settings in the drop down menu near the bottom
  3.  Click Privacy & Security in the menu on the left
  4.  Click Clear Data... under 'Cookies and Site Data'
  5.  Click Clear on the pop-up

 

 

If you cannot see the extension in your toolbar in the top right of your Mozilla Firefox browser window:

 
  • Right-click in the empty space above the web address bar and select 'Customize toolbar...'
  • Drag and drop the Talis Aspire Browser Extension* into your toolbar
  • Click Done in the bottom right of the 'Customize Firefox' browser window

 

*If you cannot see the extension in 'Customize Firefox':

  • Close the 'Customize Firefox' tab
  • Click the 'Add-ons and themes' puzzle icon in the top right**
  • Find the Talis Aspire browser extension, and click the toggle to turn the extension On
  • Right-click in the empty space above the web address bar and select 'Customize toolbar...'
  • Drag and drop the Talis Aspire Browser Extension*** into your toolbar
  • Click Done in the bottom right of the browser window

 

**If the 'Add-ons and themes' puzzle icon is not visible in the toolbar:

  • Right-click in the empty space above the web address bar and select 'Customize toolbar...'
  • Drag and drop the 'Add-ons and themes' puzzle icon into your toolbar
  • Click Done in the bottom right of the browser window

 

***If you still cannot see the extension in 'Customize Firefox' after turning the extension on:

  • Click the 'Add-ons and themes' puzzle icon in the top right
  • Click the Talis Aspire browser extension
  • Select Allow for the option 'Run in Private Windows'

Browser Extension - Safari

 

If your Browser Extension is not working in Safari, clear your cache:               Keyboard Shortcut:  Ctrl + H

 
  1.   Click History in the menu bar at the top of your browser window
  2.   Select Clear History at the bottom of the drop down
 

If your Browser Extension is still not working, contact ServiceNow

 

If you cannot see the bookmarks bar in your Safari browser window:                           Keyboard shortcut:   Cmd + Shift + B


  •  Click 'View' in the menu bar
  •  Select 'Show Favourites Bar' in the drop down menu
 

Managing Sections

 

Organise your list into chronological or themed Sections. This enables students to easily navigate the list and find resources.


 

To add a Section:

  •  Hover your cursor on the list and click 'Add Section' in the blue line. The blue line indicates where it will be added.
  •  Enter a Title, add a description, and click Save â†’ Name the first section 'Textbooks' if the course uses any

To add a sub-Section:

  •  Hover your cursor inside the existing section, and click 'Add Section' in the blue line.
  •  Enter a Title, add a description, and click Save

To move a section:

  • Click the three dots button  to the right of the section title, and select Cut in the drop down
  • Hover your cursor where you would like to place the section, and click  in the blue line.

To edit a section:

  • Click the three dots button  to the right of the section title, and select Edit in the drop down menu
  • Change the title or description of the section, then click Save

Delete a section:

  • Click the three dots button  to the right of the section title, and select Delete in the drop down menu
    • Please note, this will permanently delete the section AND all items within it. There is NO undo button.
 

Missing Course Resources Tab

 

If the Course Resources tab is missing from your Canvas course navigation menu:

 
  • Click the 'Settings' tab at the bottom of the navigation menu
  • Choose 'Navigation' at the top of the page
  • Find 'Course Resources' in the list of hidden options
  • Drag 'Course Resources' into the list of visible options
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click 'Save'
 

The Course Resources tab is now visible in the navigation menu

 

Restoring Deletions

 

Unfortunately, the system does not have an undo function

 

If a deleted resource needs to be restored, the only options are:


To remind yourself what has been deleted: 

 

1)   If the list has not been published yet since the resource was deleted:

  •  Click 'View & Export' in the top right of the list, and select 'As student'
  •  The deleted item will still be visible in this view, but will disappear once the list is published
 

2)  If the list has been published since the resource was deleted:

  •  Click 'View & Export' in the top right of the list, and select 'Recent changes'
  •  A log will display detailing changes that have been made and when (but not which user made the changes)
  •  Click the three dots button  to the right of each entry, and click 'More details' to see which item was deleted
 

 

Unfortunately, the system does not have an undo function

 

If a deleted section needs to be restored, the only option is:

  1.    Re-add the section
  2.    Individually re-add each resource that was contained within the deleted section:

To remind yourself what has been deleted: 

 

1)   If the list has not been published since the resource was deleted:

  •  Click 'View & Export' in the top right of the list, and select 'As student'
  •  The deleted item will still be visible in this view, but will disappear once the list is published
 

2)  If the list has been published since the resource was deleted:

  •  Click 'View & Export' in the top right of the list, and select 'Recent changes'
  •  A log will display detailing changes that have been made and when (but not which user made the changes)
  •  Click the three dots button  to the right of each entry, and click 'More details' to see which items were deleted
 

 

Unfortunately, the system does not have an undo function

 

If a deleted list needs to be restored, the only options are:

  • Ask Librarians to rollover the list from the last time the course was taught to the current Semester 
  • Ask Librarians to create a new blank list for your course for the current Semester, for you to add items to
