EndNote for PC

A comprehensive guide to the reference management software EndNote.

General notes

See the APA Referencing Style Guide - Reports for definitive examples of APA-compliant references.

  • Use the Book or Electronic Book reference type unless the report is numbered, in which case use the Report reference type which includes a Report Number field

  • If the report has a corporate author remember to add a comma at the end of the organisation name in the Author field

  • Corporate author abbreviations should appear in addition to the full name in the first in-text citation and instead of the full name thereafter
    • First citation:   ….as research indicates (Inland Revenue Department [IRD], 2007)
    • Subsequent citations:  .…suggested by recent statistics (IRD, 2010)
    • First citation: Endnote workaround
      • Highlight the citation, click Edit and Manage Citation(s) in the EndNote X8 tab

      • In the Prefix box, enter the full author name plus the bracketed abbreviation, followed by a comma and a space, e.g., Inland Revenue Department [IRD]
  • Subsequent citations: Endnote workaround
