EndNote

A comprehensive guide to the reference management software EndNote.

EndNote Web

EndNote Web is the online version of your desktop EndNote version.

EndNote Web provides:

  • ability to sync with a local version so you can access your library from multiple locations
  • a back up of a desktop library
  • options that streamline reference-sharing with colleagues

Important note: EndNote Web does not have Group sets and Smart Groups functions. If you have used Group Sets or Smart Groups in your desktop library, they will not display in EndNote Web (they will still exist in your desktop version).

Registration

  • Go to the EndNote Web login page to register your account
  • Enter your AUT email address and choose a password

Synchronise libraries

Use Sync to create an online backup of a desktop library, or if you work on different computers.

You can only have one online library. If you synchronise more than one desktop library this process will merge your different libraries, essentially making them one library.

Initial sychronisation

  • Always start by creating a backup
  • Open your local (desktop) library
  • (Windows/PC): Go to Edit > Preferences >Sync
  • (Mac): Go to EndNote Version > Preferences >Sync

  • Tick or untick Sync Automatically, depending on whether you want to choose when to sync your library or if you want it to stay synced automatically
  • Click Enable Sync
  • Enter your EndNote Account Credentials (email and password) and click OK
  • Once the process has completed, check EndNote Web and desktop EndNote to make sure the libraries are the same

Subsequent access

  • Sign in to your account via http://www.myendnoteweb.com
  • After synchronisation press <F5> to ensure the display has refreshed before viewing the updated library
  • Any changes you make to your EndNote web library will be pulled down into your desktop library the next time it is synchronised
