Using EndNote's CWYW functionality for referencing has several advantages but
- The embedded codes can make it difficult to edit references
- Sometimes a plain text document is specifically requested, e.g., by a lecturer or journal publisher
If you have largely completed writing and editing you can convert your document to plain text.
Converting to plain text
- Open the EndNote X8 tab, select Tools > Convert to Plain Text
- A notification window will pop up, click OK
- A copy of the document without field codes appears in a new document window
- Save this document with a new filename
- You now have the previous Word version, with field codes, and the new version, with citations and references editable in Word
Note: The new document is no longer linked to your EndNote library so any changes to EndNote records will not carry through to the plain text version.
