ORCID and Researcher Profiles

Using researcher networks and online profiles

Scholarly networks (such as ResearchGate, LinkedIn and SSRN) and social media platforms (such as Twitter and Facebook) offer some useful features that help researchers build connections, share their work, engage a wider audience and seek collaborations.

Watch this video to know more about why researchers should use social media.

Consider the following aspects when using these tools:

  1. Keep your profiles up-to-date. You won't get any benefits if you only signed up an account with an incomplete profile.
  2. Ensure your details and publication list are accurate.
  3. Consider copyright when uploading full-text articles onto social networks/social media:
    • You may be able to include full-text of your open access publications in your online profiles.
    • You may have signed a copyright transfer agreement or an exclusive license agreement with a journal and may not have the right to make the published version of your publications available on researcher networks.
    • Check publishers' self-archiving policies on SHERPA/RoMEO before uploading any full-text articles onto any of your online research profiles/networks.
  4. The best way to make your full text publications open access is to deposit your publications with the AUT repository Tuwhera Open Research Outputs. Librarians will check journals' archiving policies for you. You can add permanent links of your publications in Tuwhera to your online profiles.
