Common issues
The corporate author isn't displaying correctly, e.g., Health, M. o. instead of Ministry of Health
- Open the EndNote library record and add a comma directly after the last letter of the name.
My references aren't displayed in correct APA 7th style
- Check that the style selector has been set to APA 7th in both EndNote and Word.
My in-text citations are showing in curly brackets, e.g., {Smith, 2023 #4}
- The Instant Formatting option has probably been turned off.
- To turn formatting back on, toggle the Instant Formatting is On/Off button in the EndNote tab in Word.
- If your in-text citations do not update, click Update Citations and Bibliography
I need to delete the citation from the text but keep the full reference in the reference list
- In Word, go to Edit & Manage Citations in the EndNote tab.
- Select the reference.
- Under Edit citation click the Formatting drop-down menu.
- Select Show Only in Bibliography and OK
The page numbers I add to my in-text citation keep disappearing
- Citations and bibliography entries inserted into Word using EndNote have embedded field codes.
- As these negate normal Word commands, any changes must be done using options on the EndNote tab - don't type the page numbers directly into the in-text citations.
The EndNote tab isn't showing when I open Word
- Sometimes the tab doesn't install correctly when EndNote is downloaded.
- See EndNote tab for instructions on customising, configuring or reinstalling the tab.
My EndNote library is damaged or corrupted
How can I remove hyperlinks in my reference list?
- File > Options > Proofing
- AutoCorrect Options > AutoFormat As You Type
- Clear the check box Internet and network paths with hyperlinks
