A comprehensive guide to the reference management software EndNote.

Exporting references from SAGE Research Methods

To export references from SAGE Research Methods into EndNote, follow the process described below.

Step 1: Select reference to export

First, make sure your EndNote library is open. Search SAGE Research Methods, and apply search filters if necessary, to retrieve relevant results.

It is easiest to export one reference at a time.

To select a reference to export:

  • Next to the reference, click Export Citation

Step 2: Export reference file and open in EndNote

The export pop up window will open.

  • Under Format, choose your preferred referencing style, such as APA, or Chicago
  • Under Export to your manager, choose EndNote
  • Click Open

SAGE Research Methods Export window

  • If you are using Firefox, an .RIS file will open in EndNote and the reference will be imported
  • If you are using another browser, such as Google Chrome, the .RIS file will download - double-click on it from the downloads bar or saved location to open it in EndNote and import the reference

Open the imported reference and make any changes necessary to produce an accurate citation.

Note - you can also choose to add items to a Reading List and then export the entire list to EndNote:

  • First create a profile using your email address and a password you choose
    • My Profile > Create Profile
  • Next to the references you want to export, click Add to My Reading Lists
  • My Profile > My Reading Lists > Cite All
  • Choose EndNote in the dropdown menu > Export
