EndNote

A comprehensive guide to the reference management software EndNote.

General notes

See APA Style Referencing Guide - TV, film & video for definitive examples of APA-compliant references.

Main contributors’ names

  • Very specific steps must be taken in EndNote in order to output references in Word that include the bracketed position descriptors required by APA, e.g.

Scorcese, M. (Producer)

EndNote workaround

  • Enter each contributor on a new line
  • Use the inverted format, i.e. family name followed by first initial
  • Type the full stop after the author's initial (in this case, EndNote will not add it automatically for you)
  • Add an extra comma after each contributor’s family name
  • Enter the position descriptor in brackets, after each name, e.g.

Scorcese,, M. (Producer)

Lonergan,, K. (Writer/Director)
