Exporting references from JSTOR

To export references from JSTOR into EndNote, follow the process described below.

Step 1: Select reference/s to export

First, make sure your EndNote library is open. Search JSTOR, and apply search filters if necessary, to retrieve relevant results.

To select a single reference to export:

  • Click the Cite this item button next to the reference
  • In the Cite This Item dialog box, click Export a RIS file

To select several references to export at the same time:

  • In the database, tick the box next to the title of each reference
  • In the top menu, click Export Selected Citations > Export a RIS file

Step 2: Open reference file in EndNote

  • If you are using Firefox, an .RIS file will open in EndNote and the reference/s will be imported
  • If you are using another browser, such as Google Chrome, the .RIS file will download - double-click on it from the downloads bar or saved location to open it in EndNote and import the reference/s

Open each imported reference and make any changes necessary to produce an accurate citation.
